Today’s topic: Bulk Email Sends
Effective email marketing is a critical component of many businesses marketing strategy. As of the 1st April, Google & Yahoo made some critical updates concerning bulk email sending protocols. These changes are crucial for maintaining compliance and ensuring the effectiveness of your email marketing strategies. Here are five key points to ensure you stay compliant.

New Guidelines Apply to Personal Email Accounts Only
Starting this month (April 2024) bulk email rejections will be enforced. These guidelines are specifically targeted at personal email accounts receiving emails.
Enforcement of New Requirements
Effective February 2024, Google and Yahoo have begun enforcing new requirements for bulk email senders. The focus areas include authentication of outgoing emails, reported spam rates, and the provision of easy unsubscribe options.
Authentication Requirements
Bulk senders (those who send to more than 5,000 addresses in one day) are now required to implement Sender Policy Framework (SPF), DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), and Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance (DMARC) mechanisms to authenticate their emails.
Reported Spam Rates
Bulk senders must maintain their reported spam rates below 0.10%. Any rate exceeding 0.30% is strongly discouraged to maintain sender reputation and deliverability.
Unsubscribe Requirements
Google mandates that marketing messages and other subscribed content must support one-click unsubscribe functions to prioritise user experience.
